PENTICTON, B.C. – The Penticton Vees are pleased to announce the commitment of forward Simon Meier for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

“Simon has proven to be a dynamic player having the opportunity to represent his country at both the Hlinka [Gretzky Cup] and Under 18 Championships,” commented Vees’ President, General Manager, and Head Coach Fred Harbinson. “Our fans will enjoy Simon’s speed and skill that he will bring to our lineup.”

Meier, who hails from Bülach, Switzerland, played the 2022-23 season for EHC Kloten’s junior squad in the Swiss U20-Elit. Meier finished second in team scoring with 37 points (10G, 27A) in 30 regular season games. The 5’8, 155-pound winger added seven points (3G, 4A) in seven playoff games. In his last two seasons with EHC Kloten’s U20 program, Meier put up 57 points (17G, 40A) in 53 regular season games.

Meier has plenty of international experience under his belt, as he represented Switzerland at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the 2023 IIHF World Under 18 Championship. At last summer’s Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Red Deer, AB, Meier posted five points (1G, 4A) in five games. In April, at the World Under 18’s in his home country, Meier had one assist in five games.

Meier has already secured a commitment to Northern Michigan University. The Vees organization would like to welcome Simon to Penticton and the South Okanagan.
